Job Summary
The Transportation Engineer position encompasses various levels of responsibility, from entry-level (Engineer I) to advanced roles (Engineer V), focusing on transportation engineering work across planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, and maintenance. This role ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Engineers at these levels engage with governmental officials and private entities, with increasing levels of independence and complexity in their assignments as they progress. Essential Duties vary by level: - **Transportation Engineer I**: Assists with design, computer operations, and plan preparation; monitors consultants' progress and work quality; reviews and processes Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submissions; utilizes project management principles; performs other job responsibilities as assigned. - **Transportation Engineer II**: Includes all duties of Engineer I, negotiates fees, explains scope of work, and performs complex planning work. - **Transportation Engineer III**: Includes all duties of Engineer II, assesses project progress against plans, and develops plans for project managers. - **Transportation Engineer IV**: Includes all duties of Engineer III, monitors contract performance, evaluates deliverables, and serves as a project manager. - **Transportation Engineer V**: Includes all duties of Engineer IV, assesses project progress for highly complex projects and oversees plans for such projects.
